Order of Information

So you now have all the information you need to ensure you CV will grab the attention of a future employer and win you an interview for your next job. The only thing remaining is to ensure the information is in the right order.

There are a couple of things to bear in mind for this. What will the employer expect? What is most important to them? What shows you in the best light?

I will suggest a couple of different ways to order the information in you CV depending on your circumstances. Use these as a guide but do consider the 3 earlier questions.

First - Your name and contact details - this will be expected at the beginning and should be there.

Second - If you have chosen to develop any statements or list of achievements they should come next, and in that order.

Now is where it gets more individual. The third area you should include in dependant on your circumstances and the role for which you are applying.

If you are a recent graduate with limited work experience and are applying for a graduate scheme you should enter your education now. This would also be the same for roles where academic achievement is particularly important.

For most people, although important, education and training come after recent work history. Employers want to know what you can offer them, this is normally best represented by your recent work history.

Once you have passed this hurdle you are almost there, all that is remaining are hobbies and interests, other information and references. I cannot really offer any guidance here, you should use them only if they add value to your CV and you have the space.

That's it. Thanks for persevering; we wish you every success with the development of your CV and your subsequent job applications.
